About this event

At Bloum, we’re on a mission to help students on their growth journey from all angles holistically.

Teachers and staff members can play a crucial role well beyond the classroom. They act as a vital role model who can inspire a young student for life. As such, we’ve prepared a special wellbeing webinar for you in partnership with the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth, ARACY.

“Normalising wellbeing conversations with students” is a webinar to discuss the role every school member plays in supporting student growth.

Having the title of ‘Wellbeing officer’ or the role of ‘School Psychologist’ does not automatically mean students feel comfortable talking about wellbeing matters with these adults.

However, we know that students talk to people they trust, so ensuring that everyone working in a school is equipped to respond in line with best practices is essential. We can do that by adopting ARACY’s The Common Approach®.

The Common Approach® is a prevention-focused and flexible way of working to help anyone have quality conversations with young people and their families about all aspects of their wellbeing. ‘Wellbeing’ within the Common Approach is framed by The Nest meaning it covers the six areas of being Valued, Loved and Safe, Healthy, Participating, Positive Sense of Identity and Culture, Material Basics, and Learning.

The Common Approach® encourages anyone working with children, young people, and families to work in partnership with them, focus on strengths, place the student at the centre of the conversation, and consider all aspects of the students’ circumstances. It is an evidence-based approach suitable for anyone regularly interacting with students and their families.

You’ll learn about:

  • The importance of enabling connections between students and educators
  • The impact of giving students the agency to speak up when they want support
  • How The Common Approach® empowers educators to feel more confident in facilitating conversations with students
  • How Bloum provides a platform for students to connect with people they trust
  • How educators can use Bloum to identify the influences of student feelings
